Costume

Costume

The costume my actor will be wearing will be be a grey turtle neck top, and whatever pants and shoes my actor wants as they will not feature in my shot, I would like my actor to wear a grey top as it will merge in with the black and white theme of my magazine

Time managment

Time management

I am going to have all of my pictures took, and the best ones selected, by the end of january, I am going to start taking my pictures at the start of January, this will give me plenty of time to take many different shots, and maybe change the camera angles and props used on my front cover and contents page, if I decide it is necessary to do so.

Camera angles

Camera angles

I am going to use a medium close up camera angles on the side of my actors face, I am going to do the side of my actors face as it seems to add a bit more mystery to my actor of whom is a new unknown artist. I want a medium close up as the audience will then be getting a detailed picture of the new artist as it is a close up picture.

Props

I will not be using any props in my photo-shoot as I do not want to take away the message from the front cover, however I may decide to use a prop in my cover photo

Saving Private Ryan assessment

Assessment

Saving Private Ryan's opening scene begins with a short clip of a calm beach, with some text showing the audience where this is taking place, this short clip of the beach here is used to create calmness in the audience. A straight cut is then used and a hand held camera is used showing the roughness of the water and makes the audience feel as though they are actually on a boat with these men, this is to engage the viewers, we see that the costumes being used are army costumes, they are also well worn and dirty, showing us that these men seem to have been through a lot. There is then a close up on one of the soldiers hands, the hands are shaking showing us how nervous this man is and what he is feeling at the moment, the camera then pans up and we see that the man is Tom Hanks, the audience will immediately recognise the actor and so know that he will have a main role in this movie, the cameraman then begins moving backwards showing the audience more of the men on the boat and how they feel at the moment, two of the men are being sick, this shows that they are scared, and also starts to create tension in the audience.

As the soldiers are approaching the beach digetic sound is used not only in Tom Hanks giving orders, but also we hear explosions in the background, proving what the audience already assumed at this point, that they are entering a war zone. We also hear the sounds of more men being sick and heavy breathing, these sounds all show that they are scared and nervous for what is about to happen, a whistle noise then blows and gun shots star firing and special effects are used as the men in the boats are being shot dead, there is then a jump cut and the camera shows the backs of the men firing the bullets, it is a high angle shot showing that these men have much more power than those that are on the beach. Fast paced editing is mainly being used at this part apart from when the hand held camera is underwater, the camera movement is very lethargic at this point, I think it is used to represent how these men feel when they are under the water as their army uniforms and gear weigh a lot and so they wouldn't be able to move quickly under water and so feel sluggish and begin to panic.

The editing is extremely high paced by now and there is a scene when the high angle camera angle is used again behind the Nazi's to show how merciless they are, and showing the audience how much of a massacre this was, and the complete chaos of what is going on. There is a lot of special effects being used here to add to the realism of the scene, especially when we see a man have his leg blown off by one of the bombs, straight after this we see a close up of Tom Hank's face and the editing slows down, this is showing the audience exactly what Tom Hank's character is seeing, he is seeing his men dying and the violence and death all around him, he seems lost in all of it and does not know what to do, he then puts his helmet back on, this is a sign of him taking charge again and the editing picks its pace up again and the sound returns back to normal, the sound of the explosions and gunshots, the change in pace of editing shows the audience that he is now back to normal and ready to fight and give orders.

Location

For my location I willl use a green screen and edit parts around my actor out and fill it with text.

Actor

My chosen actor will be Daniel Probbing, this is because he has a lot of good facial features and is very photogenic and so will appeal to the female audience, he is also very popular amongst the male audience too and so will also appeal to these too,

This is a picture of my chosen actor

Examples of how I want my actor positioned

These are two examples of how I would like my actor positioned, in both of these shots the actors are looking of the the side, I want my actor to do this so I have a lot of space to put text in the direction the actor is looking.

Assessment

Trainspotting

This scene in the movie 'trainspotting' starts with some non-digetic sound (a voiceover) I think this is used here to try connect the audience with the main character as we are hearing his thoughts. After this there is digetic sounds as there is a conversation between two characters, during this conversation there is an attempt to create humour as one of the characters says a completely un-related thing "he knows alot about Sean Connery" After this there is a sound bridge which uses the sound of a train, I think this sound has been used here because it links in with the title of the movie. Immediately after this sound bridge non-digetic music begins to play, and also another voice over, the music that is playing does not link in with what the audience is actually seeing in the movie, the music is classical even though what the movie is showing is a drug user trying to stop using drugs, I think this non- parallel sound is used to yet again create humour. The voice speaking is of the main character and he is listing all of the things he deems necessary for rehabilitation. At the very end of the scene humour is yet again created as the main character swears at the drug dealer who brought the wrong drugs.

Mise en scene

Mise en scene

Location-  I have chosen to take my shot with my two actors standing directly in front of our schools trophy cabinet, with one of my actors receiving an award from my other actor. I have chosen to take my shot here as showing the awards in the background will show our school to be very successful, as there are many awards there.

Actors- I am going to have two actors in my shot, one male and one female, this is to show that the school is mixed genders, I am going to have one of my actors play the role of a student receiving an award, and the other actor handing over the award. I will have both of my actors wearing a smart casual uniform.

Camera shot- My camera shot will be a medium shot, this is because a medium shot provides the distance needed to show all of the awards in the background, and it will show my actors exchanging an award.

Costumes- I want my actors to be wearing their own smart casual uniform, my actors looking smart is key to showing the school in a professional light, this is why I want this type of clothing to be worn.

Props- My only prop will be a trophy, which will be exchanged between my actors.

Narrative- The story about the school of which I will be trying to portray is that our school is very successful with its sports.
