Evaluation 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I feel as though I have certainly learnt a lot since my preliminary tasks, the images below show my preliminary front cover compared to my music magazine front cover.

There is a clear difference between these two sets  of work, firstly, with my school magazine I didn't have another magazine to model from and adapt to, this is a factor in it not looking as professional as my second task. The front cover of my music magazine is also filled with more text and also buzz words to attempt to attract the audience, unlike in my pre lim front cover, I have done this because from my research I found out that most magazines use buzz words, and so I want to replicate this to make my magazine as professional as possible.

You can see from my front cover pictures that I have thought about the positioning and costume for my actor, in my music magazine I have tried to make the picture appeal to the audience so I have included an instrument to indicate the actor is a musician.

I have learnt a lot about technologies during the process of making my music magazine, I had never used an apple mac computer before this course so I have learnt a lot about them, however the software I have learnt most about is Photoshop, this piece of software was key for me to be able to produce my magazine, I had never used photoshop before this course but I now feel very confident

Throughout this process I have used different pieces of technology to complete all set tasks.

I used a canon camera to take shots for my front cover, over the process of taking these photos I learnt how to position the camera and different function the camera could do. I learnt after my first batch of photos of my model that they needed to be redone as the shots. Failed to show an indie-pop culture, Then in my second batch of photos decided to use a different location with changes in the lighting  (some on camera, some natural) to emphasise the photographs. here you can see a screenshot of some of the work I've been producing in photoshop, I learnt how to use the spot eraser tool within selections. I learnt how to change the saturation and contrast on my photos to give them a more life.
On top of this I learnt how to use rulers to lay my work out in a professional way.

I used different forms of social networking to gain audience response and to update my work and research as a developer. I used Facebook because it allowed me to send images to fellow classmates to ask for suggestions on how to improve my work which lead to me changing the majority of my pictures. I use blogger to post my research and work, which is also new to me.

Evaluation 5

Having a teenager on my front cover will attract my target audience as they are of a similar age and so can relate, my actor is male so this will not only attract males, but females too. On my front cover I have put the title in big bright writing to attract the eyesight of as many people as possible and make as many sales as possible. My colour scheme is aimed at both genders too so as to attract both genders and yet again make as many sales as possible. The price of my magazine is a cheap and reasonable £2.50, this is an important thing for my magazine as my target audience is teenagers and the cheapness of this will certainly attract them as most people in this age category do not have jobs or a solid income to be able to purchase expensive magazines. I have used buzz words on my front cover to attract the eyesight of people for example "Plus!" this makes the reader feel as though they are getting something as a bonus on top of the magazine, using the word "exclusive!" makes the reader feel special and privileged, and makes the magazine stand out as this is only in my magazine. I have also used the names of popular pop artists on the front cover so the fans of those pop stars are tempted to buy it and see what is going on with their favourite artists.

Evaluation 4

The magazine I chose was 'vibe' magazine, this magazine's target audience is R&B, hip-hop and rap fans, the target audience for them is age 18-34, however with my magazine I chose to stray away from their target audience, I have chose to aim my magazine at 15-18 year olds, a reason I have chose this target audience age is because I fit into the limitations of my target audience, so I feel as though I know what will appeal to this audience, with different trends in clothing for example.

Reader profiles

Gender: Female
Age:17
Favourite artists: Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift
Hobbies: Shopping, playing guitar

Gender: Male
Age: 16
Favourite artists: Tori Kelly, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift
Hobbies: Sports, Concerts.

From looking at my magazine I feel as though a reader would instantly be able to see what genre my music magazine is, this is because of the bright colours I have used and the pop stars I have mentioned on the cover.

Evaluation 3

My media product would mainly attract a teenage audience so it may be best using a media institution that relates themselves to teenagers or young adults. This would be an advantage to the media product as it will be attracting the correct audience. If I were to choose a magazine distributer for my magazine it would be Great magazines. Great magazines is the distributor of the likes of Mojo.

If the magazine product had been taken on by a media institution that didn't attract the audience then the magazine product may not get the audience it needs. For example, my magazine cover has the image of a teenager that relates to the target audience that the media institution may be looking for. It also has music references such as the headings that include big names in the music industry that may attract the audience. I have used a guitar in the photo to show that it is of a music genre. Bauer magazine would not be a good distributer for me to use as they distribute magazines like Kerrang and Q which are nothing like my magazine, so my magazine would not fit in there.

Evaluation 2

My music magazine is aimed at teenagers from the age of 15-18 so more older teenagers than younger, it is also a pop magazine, the actor I have used in my magazine is between this age so will attract more people to read the magazine. I believe that my music magazine represents similar social groups to that of vibe magazine
This is an image of the actor on my front cover, I have chosen a male actor to try temp females to approach and purchase the magazine, if females see an good looking actor they will want to find out more about him and so be more willing to buy the magazine.

I personally think I have been able to develop the conventions of a music magazine well, the music magazine that I have chosen to model my magazine from was the magazine 'vibe', I have chosen this magazine as it has a similar target audience and is the best fitted genre for what I am trying to produce.

This is the title of my magazine, I have used bright and big writing like most music magazines do, to attract more people to view my magazine.

This is 'vibe' magazines title, my title is very similar to this one, I decided to keep it very similar as 'vibe' magazine is a popular magazine and has a big audience, meaning it must be working for this magazine to attract people.

This is my magazine front cover compared to vibe magazines, as you can see I have tried to keep as many conventions as similar as possible.

Using a barcode on the front cover is a convention of a real media music magazine

Using this buzz word shows the audience that this will be the only magazine featuring what is advertised, making them feel like a part of the minority who have access to this article.

Distribution homework

Distribution homework

Q1

Warp films distribution techniques are though mainstream televsion, for example they have deals with Channel 4, Sky Atlantic and ITV, those channels are going to be showing some of Warp films new "Prestigious" shows. Warp films also distribute movies to the audience with DVD's for example with the popular movie 'This Is England' of which can be purchased as a DVD and is also shown regularly on TV.

Q2

The distribution network at the Walt Disney company is through Walt disney pictures, Touchstone pictures and Hollywood pictures.

Q3

Warner bros distribute their films through many different ways, broadcast  pay cable, basic cable, satellite, pay-per-view, subscription video-on-demand, digital platforms. Warner Bros. International Television Distribution is also one of the world’s largest distributors of feature films, television programs and animation to the international television marketplace, Warner bros distribute many of their films digitally too, they use almost every way of distribution to make as much money as they can, for the audience this means they can watch movies from home now much easier as it is more accessible, however this could be negative for cinemas as less people will go there if they can watch the same things from home. A recent movie distributed by Warner bros is the movie 'Creed' which was nominated for an Oscar, Warner bros distributed this movie and on the opening weekend it grossed $29,632,823.  This movie was distributed firstly to cinemas and then onto DVD's.

Mr natton homework

Mr Natton homework

Immediately at the start of the video we see that the two police officers have a lot of the higher status as from the camera angle pointed directly at them it seems that they are blocking the only exit. When the immigration service enter the hotel some police officers are left behind at the door to stand guard, yet again showing their higher status, also so far we as the audience have only been positioned facing towards the police officers and never on their side, hinting at the fact that we should be on the immigrants side and maybe that the police are the bad guys in this clip, also when the immigration service walk into the hotel, the customers and the staff seem to become instantly more nervous, showing us that they may be a bit fearful of the police and immigration service due to their power. When they first walk into the hotel we hear some non-digetic sound, some music begins to play which builds tension as the sound makes me feel like are very serious. The atmosphere becomes more rushed when one of the hotel employees is running through the hotel to let the immigrants know what is happening we also hear some dialogue from some of the employees in a different language showing that the hotel employs foreign staff members, there is also a big contrast in the mise en scene of the hotel in the difference between the lobby of the hotel, and where all the immigrants are downstairs in the hotel. The audience begins to hear shouting from the immigrant members of staff as it turns into chaos when they are rushing to hide in the storage room, showing the panic that these people are going through and trying to make the audience feel a part of it, there is also a hand held camera being used which further supports the idea of the audience feeling like a part of the chaos downstairs underneath the calmness of the lobby. When the immigrants get into the storage room the extract challenges the stereotypical view of an immigrant represented in the media as one of the immigrants is actually very smart and trained in the field of medicine by the looks of it as he helps a woman back to health, he then says “I wasn’t always a cleaner” which is a significant saying as it shows that the immigrants are misunderstood as people who just come to this country unskilled and unqualified just to make the most of the benefits system. At the end of the extract we see two immigrants praying before they eat, this shows that they are grateful and thankful for what they have. The editing in this extract is fast as soon as the immigration services enter the hotel to find the immigrants, there are a lot of jump cuts to show the pace of everything that is happening and also this creates tension in the scene.  A

Mr Natton homework

The movie Saving Private Ryan creates the ideology that the Americans during the war were all heroes and that the nazi's were all evil villains, the movies never shows heroic acts from any of the Nazi's.

The movie Snow White creates the impression that women dream about love all the time and that they need a man to rescue them showing off the regularly used storyline of a damsel in distress in Disney movies.

The movie despicable me creates the impression that evil villians in movies can just be misunderstood people as the main character in this movie is a villian that is actually a caring man
