Mr Natton homework

Immediately at the start of the video we see that the two police officers have a lot of the higher status as from the camera angle pointed directly at them it seems that they are blocking the only exit. When the immigration service enter the hotel some police officers are left behind at the door to stand guard, yet again showing their higher status, also so far we as the audience have only been positioned facing towards the police officers and never on their side, hinting at the fact that we should be on the immigrants side and maybe that the police are the bad guys in this clip, also when the immigration service walk into the hotel, the customers and the staff seem to become instantly more nervous, showing us that they may be a bit fearful of the police and immigration service due to their power. When they first walk into the hotel we hear some non-digetic sound, some music begins to play which builds tension as the sound makes me feel like are very serious. The atmosphere becomes more rushed when one of the hotel employees is running through the hotel to let the immigrants know what is happening we also hear some dialogue from some of the employees in a different language showing that the hotel employs foreign staff members, there is also a big contrast in the mise en scene of the hotel in the difference between the lobby of the hotel, and where all the immigrants are downstairs in the hotel. The audience begins to hear shouting from the immigrant members of staff as it turns into chaos when they are rushing to hide in the storage room, showing the panic that these people are going through and trying to make the audience feel a part of it, there is also a hand held camera being used which further supports the idea of the audience feeling like a part of the chaos downstairs underneath the calmness of the lobby. When the immigrants get into the storage room the extract challenges the stereotypical view of an immigrant represented in the media as one of the immigrants is actually very smart and trained in the field of medicine by the looks of it as he helps a woman back to health, he then says “I wasn’t always a cleaner” which is a significant saying as it shows that the immigrants are misunderstood as people who just come to this country unskilled and unqualified just to make the most of the benefits system. At the end of the extract we see two immigrants praying before they eat, this shows that they are grateful and thankful for what they have. The editing in this extract is fast as soon as the immigration services enter the hotel to find the immigrants, there are a lot of jump cuts to show the pace of everything that is happening and also this creates tension in the scene.  A
